I’ve got my next retreat on the books, and because my daughter wants to come on the next one, I’m making it a mother-daughter group!

I’m going to schedule some day trips this fall as well, so stay tuned for that.

I just finished up a three month long course on Co I just finished up a three month long course on Coastal Ecosystems with UF/IFAS. I’m working towards my Florida Master Naturalist Certification.

One of my assignments was to give an interpretive presentation on a species that lives in a coastal habitat, but not give any facts.

I talked about how I love Brown Pelicans (Pelecanus occidentalis), and watching them fly and hunt is such a delight, because they remind me of my Dad. He was a fighter pilot, air jumper, and straight shooter. I could watch these birds all day!

Three gardens in three days. I’m so happy that Three gardens in three days.

I’m so happy that I have three spaces to grow in. Home garden, school garden and now, for the first time, a community garden.

No gym for me today! Not pictured: breaking up t No gym for me today!

Not pictured: breaking up the old, dried out soil with a shovel, lugging soil bags from the nursery to my car, then lugging them from my car to the garden.

This will be my first time gardening in a community garden. I grew up on an avocado farm with a vegetable garden and chicken coup, and have always had gardens at my house and/or at school, but gardening in a shared space like this is a first for me.

I wasn’t sure how things were going to shake out for me in Jacksonville, but I immediately put my name on the waitlist for this garden when I got to town. A year and half later, I finally got a plot!
