As a lifelong environmental steward and science te As a lifelong environmental steward and science teacher, I believe conservation isn’t just something we teach, it’s something we grow, together. In every school community I’ve been part of, I’ve built outdoor classrooms with pollinator gardens, because I want students to see that science is alive, wild, and worth fighting for, and that they are part of the stewardship story.

Teaching about monarchs is something I do every year and there is nothing better than watching a student spot their first chrysalis or a butterfly they helped protect. In that moment, they realize they can shape the world for the better, and that even small acts, like planting native flowers, can ripple into global conservation. These gardens are places where students can fall in love with nature, and hopefully protect monarchs as fiercely as I do.

This year, I applied for the @naturalhabitatadventures fellowship to study the monarch butterfly migration in Mexico, one of the greatest natural phenomena on Earth. Experiencing it firsthand would allow me to bring an even deeper story of connection, resilience, and stewardship back to my students.

Here’s to pollinators, to passionate young scientists, and to learning from the lands and cultures that protect monarchs on their journey. Cross your fingers and say a prayer for me, the butterflies and I are hoping for good news!

Please like and comment to convince @naturalhabitatadventures that I’m the science teacher they need for this scholarship!
